 Victor Hasselblad's life became dramatic and successful. As a young man he fled to nature and photography. In time, he became a world traveler and wealthy industrialist. Shortly before his death, he sold his camera company and formed a foundation with the task of promoting science and photography. The Hasselblad camera made its big breakthrough when the American astronauts used it in space. The camera also means a lot to more down-to-earth photographers, both amateurs and professionals in fashion, reportage, portrait, advertising, nature and scientific and medical photography. The idea for his camera came to Victor Hasselblad (1906-78) when he traveled around the country and the kingdom to photograph birds during his youth. But he was never really happy with his pictures and started dreaming of a better camera. He published his thoughts and when World War II broke out, he was commissioned by the Swedish Air Force to build a military reconnaissance camera. Production started in a garage near the port of Gothenburg. The civilian camera had to wait. But three years after the war, it was ready to be launched. It was an immediate success. Even today, the modern Hasselblad is based on Victor Hasselblad's basic idea of a modular camera system. The book is the result of many years of research and is based on extensive interviews and extensive correspondence. This second revised edition of the book about the man behind the camera contains many new illustrations and information. In addition, an updated list of Hasselblad's camera models and an addendum describing what happened to the company when it went from analog to digital photography.
