Dala horses, the original
Every Dala horse is unique, everything is made by hand and each horse has its own character. So there are no two exactly the same horses in the world, just as there should be with a real craft.
When filling and basic painting is finished, clever painter hands take over to give the horse its characteristic pattern which is the very hallmark of the Dala horse.
The traditional pattern found on Dala horses is called mural painting (krusmålning) and is closely related to kurbits.. The mural is painted freehand by skilled decorators. The last step is to paint the neighboring horses. Then it's time for them to leave Nusnäs and travel the world. This does not only make the horses a symbol for Dalarna but for the whole of Sweden.
