During the 1970s, ABBA was the world's best-selling pop group. Since winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, their music has triumphed worldwide. ABBA topped the charts in virtually every country on earth with a long line of its today classic tunes.
In recent years, ABBA has experienced an almost inconceivable revival. The group is today more popular than ever. The compilation CD ABBA Gold has sold more copies than any of the group's previous albums, and the musical Mamma Mia! - which is based on ABBA songs - plays for sold out houses.
From ABBA to Mamma Mia! contains nearly 600 photos taken by photographer Anders Hanser for more than two decades. As a personal friend of ABBA, he has been able to follow them very closely and in a way that makes his pictures completely unique. When other photographers have the pictures of when ABBA after a concert steps into the limousine - Hanser has the pictures from inside the same car… Many of the photographs in this book have never been published before. For the first time in an ABBA book, the pictures have also been consistently placed in their proper contexts.
The initiated text in From ABBA to Mamma Mia! has been written by Carl Magnus Palm, one of the foremost authorities on the subject of ABBA. He puts the group's history in a new light and draws in the book a complete and very vivid portrait of the group and its members: from their days as the biggest pop phenomenon of the 1970s, through their various solo albums, the musical Chess in the 1980s, and up to our days of success with Kristina from Duvemåla, B&B and Mamma Mia!
Several of the key people who have worked with ABBA over the years have also been interviewed before the book - e.g. sound engineer Michael B. Tretow, video director Lasse Hallström, cover designer Rune Söderqvist, clothing designer Owe Sandström and organizer Anders Eljas.
From ABBA to Mamma Mia! is an outstanding time document of one of Sweden's greatest international successes in all categories - ABBA and the individual members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
Foreword by the main characters themselves - Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid.
